My Qualifications

Whilst in Abu Dhabi, I trained to be a Doula.  My initial training was with Nurturing Birth in November 2008, followed by further training with DONA International (Doulas of North America) in March 2009.  I attended my first birth in June 2009 and realised that I had found my perfect job.

I am have completed my certification as a recognised doula via Doula UK's training scheme.

Why am I a Doula?

I believe in birth and the ability of women to birth their babies.  I believe every woman has the right to choose the birth that is right for her.   As a doula, I am there to support a labouring mother, to help her to achieve her birth goals, and if things do not go as planned, to ensure the birth experience is not compromised.

What does "Mother the Mother" Mean?

With the birth of a child, a mother and a family are also born.  To me, one of the main roles of the doula is to mother the mother, to protect and nurture the labouring woman, as she becomes a mother.  Just as she eases her new child into the world, so I aim to ease the new mother to be born.
